How many metres is a pogon, an ar, a iugăr, a hectare
In Romania, the most commonly used unit of measurement for agricultural land and land used for other purposes is the hectare. But there are cases where you will find names for the unit of measurement of land such as “pogon”, “ar”, “Transylvanian iugăr”, “cadastral iugăr”, etc.
All these are units of measurement for area.
For a simple and quick calculation, you can approximate that one pogon equals 1/2 hectare (1 pogon= 0.5 hectares). In reality, under the law for the application of the Metric System of measures and weights, adopted in Romania on 28 February 1875, one pogon = 4.98 hectares.
