Extension Installation

Access Chrome Web Store
Open Chrome browser and navigate to the extension page on Chrome
Web Store or use the install button on this page.

Click "Add to Chrome"
Press the blue "Add to Chrome" button and confirm the installation
in the popup window.

Done!
The extension is installed! Navigate to Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude
to start organizing.
First Use

Select Language
On first open, you'll see a setup wizard. Select your preferred
language.

Auto Organization (Optional)
The extension will ask if you want to auto-organize existing
chats. Select the number of chats (50-200).

Floating Button
You'll see a round button in the bottom-right corner. Click it to
open the options menu.
Folder Management

Create New Folder
In the main panel, type the folder name in the bottom field and
press "Create".

Create Subfolder
Hover over an existing folder and press the "+" icon to add a
subfolder.

Rename & Delete
Use the edit (pencil) and delete (trash) icons that appear on
hover.

Pin Folder
Press the pin icon to fix the folder at the top of the list.
Saving Chats

Save Current Chat
Click floating button → "Save Chat" → Select desired folder →
Done!

Save from Sidebar
Hover over any chat in the sidebar and press the orange "+"
button.

Add Notes
After saving, hover over the chat and press the tag icon to add a
note.
Organize & Search

Search
Use the search bar at the top to find chats by title or note.

Filter by Platform
Use the chips (All, Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude) to filter chats.

Drag & Drop
Drag chats between folders or reorder them easily.
Backup & Settings

Access Settings
Click floating button → "Settings" to open the configuration
panel.

Export Data
Press "Export" to download a JSON file with all your folders and
chats.

Import Data
Press "Import" and select a previously exported JSON file to
restore.
Frequently asked questions
Is the extension free?
Yes, Chat Folders is 100% free. There are no paid versions, subscriptions, or hidden limitations. All features are available to all users.
Is my data safe?
Absolutely! All data is stored exclusively locally on your computer using Chrome Storage API. We don’t send any information to external servers. The extension works completely offline after installation.
Which browsers does it work on?
The extension is developed for Google Chrome. It also works on Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.
Can I export my data?
Yes! In the Settings section you can export all folders and chats to a JSON file. This file can be imported later for backup or transfer to another computer.
What happens when I delete a chat from the platform?
The extension keeps the reference to the chat in your folders. If the chat is deleted from the platform, the link will no longer work, but you can manually delete the entry from the folder.
Can I sync between devices?
Currently, data is stored locally. For syncing, you can use the Export/Import feature to manually transfer the JSON file between devices.
How does auto organization work?
The extension scans the titles of visible chats in the sidebar and automatically categorizes them based on keywords (e.g., „wordpress” → Web Development, „SEO” → Marketing). Categories are predefined for business productivity.
Does the extension slow down the browser?
No. The extension is optimized and uses minimal resources. It only activates on the 3 supported sites (Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude) and doesn’t affect browser performance.
